Junior Instructor


DiscoverE is pleased to offer you a unique and exciting summer volunteer opportunity! We are currently searching for students finishing grades 10, 11, or 12 to fill the position of DiscoverE Junior Instructor.

DiscoverE is a student-delivered initiative of the Faculty of Engineering with a focus on fun, accessibility and mentorship. We deliver high-impact classroom workshops, unique clubs and events, and engaging summer programs that bring the excitement and possibilities of engineering, science and technology to 27,000 youth every year!
 
This volunteer position runs full-time during the summer weeks from June 30th to August 25th. Any Junior Instructor who is conditionally accepted into the Faculty of Engineering for Fall 2017 is eligible to receive a scholarship for undergraduate study (contingent on their admission to the Faculty of Engineering in the Fall, enrollment in classes, and successful completion of the Junior Instructor program).

The Junior Instructor experience is an excellent opportunity to experience the University environment, meet professors in your desired field, gain valuable leadership skills, and interact with other university students.

Duties & Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Resource Coordinator, Junior Instructors will:
  • Assist with the day to day running of camps
  • Help campers complete science related projects
  • Assist in the preparation of project materials
  • Supervise campers on campus tours and during the lunch hour
* Potential to travel and deliver programming to northern Alberta communities

Qualifications:


All students in high school and recent high school graduates are eligible to apply. Junior Instructors are expected to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
 
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Dedication, an outgoing personality, flexibility, good teamwork skills, and an eagerness to work with children
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Prior work or volunteer experience, specifically with youth, would be considered an asset
